Herpes is one of the deadliest diseases as well as the most dangerous skin maladies today man is suffering from. Herpes is not a single disease, but it is the name given to a set of diseases caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). Herpes is a very dangerous disease which leads to irritating, itchy, painful and highly contagious skin infections in the form of small blisters in groups over various body parts. These blisters are usually referred to as Cold Sores or Fever Blisters and may be there on any body part. But these infections are usually and the most commonly found on the face, in mouth, or in the genitals. Herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus and is of two categories, namely Oral Herpes and Genital Herpes. This categorization is based on the infected body parts. Herpes is of two types, namely Oral Herpes and Genital Herpes. Oral Herpes is the type of Herpes when the Herpes infections are on the face, in mouth, on or around the nose, in or around eyes, on cheeks, chin, neck and elbows. To the contrary, in case of Genital Herpes, the similar infections are in the form of grouped small blisters or similar lesions in the genitals of the individual, which may include the private body parts, the external sex organs, the groin, the buttocks and the opening of the anus in some cases. These types of blisters or the infections are highly contagious and can be easily transmitted from an infected person to a healthy one by the means of any type of Oral or the Sexual Contacts. Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) is of two types, namely HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 is responsible for the cases of Oral Herpes, while HSV-2 causes the majority of the Genital Herpes. Herpes is a highly contagious disease and another fact is that both the types of HSV are able to cause both the types of Herpes infections. Herpes is actually an incurable disease. The reason is that once a person gets infected with the HSV, it makes a sort of permanent shelter in the body of that person and hence, it becomes very difficult or almost impossible for the immune system of that individual to eradicate it from the infected body. A large part of the human population is suffering from Herpes today. More than half a billion Americans are suffering from Herpes according to a recent health study. It has made it quite important to find an effective cure for Herpes in order to completely eradicate it and to lead a healthy and a normal life.
